Client Introduction
Vention Inc. stands at the forefront of transforming factory automation, offering cutting-edge equipment tailored for innovative enterprises poised for the future.
In An Ideal World
Businesses strive to ensure that users can effortlessly recognize the value of their products and utilize them to address their daily challenges. This is the aspiration of most companies, and I fully support this vision.
However, when this 'ideal world' seems unattainable, the solution is to innovate—bridging the gap between the value offered and the target users who may be unaware of or unfamiliar with the product or service. This innovation culminates in the creation of an 'Onboarding Experience.'
Challenge
Vention, positioned as a leader in industrial automation, is dedicated to providing innovative automation solutions to a diverse array of forward-thinking clients. However, there remains considerable potential for growth, as many factories worldwide have yet to adopt automation in their production lines, resulting in significant inefficiencies.
This initiative aims to assist these businesses by offering a seamless introduction to automation, empowering them to transform their operations, increase productivity, and drive overall growth.
Project Goal
Delivering value through Vention's onboarding process means ensuring that users experience the platform's benefits and capabilities at every step. The goal is to guide users seamlessly, addressing their needs and pain points, while gradually showcasing how Vention solves their challenges. This journey culminates in the 'Aha! moment'—the point where users fully grasp the platform's unique value and realize its impact on their goals, leaving them confident and eager to engage further.

Solution
Along with defining my objectives for this project, I focused on understanding the perspectives of typical users and prospects. To achieve this, I crafted and posed precise, targeted questions.
Questions:
What motivates a business to be interested in Vention's offerings?
Why would a business choose to trial our solution?
How can we effectively connect their problems to our solution?
How can we quickly convey the value of our assistance to them?
Strategic Approach
Answering these questions is a significant challenge, as Vention addresses a wide range of niche and general business needs. However, the first step was to assemble the right team to collaboratively explore these questions.
Sitting With The Product Owner
To succeed in this project, strong collaboration between the Product Owner (PO) and myself, the Product Designer, was essential. We frequently met to brainstorm and evaluate various aspects of the project, which ultimately led to answering the aforementioned questions.
Focusing On My Part
Independently, I conducted extensive benchmarking to understand how other companies convey their value to new prospects. We aimed to align the 'reason for demand' with the 'reason to trust us.' Additionally, I considered the psychological tools necessary to keep users engaged.
Sketching The Flow
The entire flow comprises three main components. Each part was designed with simplicity in mind to minimize cognitive load for the user, ensuring a smooth progression toward their desired outcome.
Below, I have included a flow diagram that details the process from the sign-in or sign up stage to the final stage of onboarding.

Solving Each Segment Within The Flow
#1 Sign In Flow
In any onboarding process, the 'Sign In/Sign Up' phase is critical, as every second counts. It's essential to deliver the "Aha!" moment to users at just the right time—neither too early nor too late.
To achieve a swift and effective Sign In/Sign Up experience, it is best to use a familiar flow. If this stage is not the primary value you aim to communicate, it is advisable not to reinvent the wheel.
Below, I have included the low-fidelity screen for the sign-in page layout we chose, with annotations at the bottom of the image to highlight our design decisions.
#2 Sign Up Flow
Aligned with the emphasis on familiarity and efficiency, the sign-up process adopts a straightforward approach. We prioritize simplicity by ensuring users can sign up easily, accounting for common human errors in typing. Helper texts are provided to guide users in rectifying any mistakes.
Furthermore, to expedite the sign-up procedure, we have implemented 'OAuth authentication' and 'Single Sign-On (SSO) support.' This includes support for widely used SSO providers such as Google and Microsoft.
Screen Design For Development
Following collaborative sessions with stakeholders and the presentation of a low-fidelity mockup for review and assessment, I meticulously incorporated their feedback to refine and enhance the proposed solution.
